WiMAX RF Functional Test System
G Systems developed an automated, integrated test system for production testing of Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) RF boards with multiple frequency ranges. Precision timing and complex signal triggering for RF transmitter/receiver tests were accomplished using National Instruments Reconfigurable I/O PXI-7831R and PXI6653 timing and synchronization control modules.
Previously, engineers were forced to test and calibrate RF boards manually using bench top instruments. Manual calibration for each frequency and power level was tedious and time consuming.
Hardware used in the WiMAX test system includes NI PXI chassis, a signal generator, spectrum analyzer, electronic load, power meters, RF switching, and power supplies. Over 200 channels of RF signals are integrated in a Virginia Panel receiver for testing multiple WiMAX boards. The system is designed to switch signals up to 8 GHz.
The test software consists of customized TestStand Test Executive, LabVIEW test modules and an Access database for storing instrument configurations and test limits. Test results are stored in a SigmaQuest database, which provides extensive data analysis capabilities. Test reports are generated from NI's TestStand.
